Owww ...

So anyway my operation is scheduled for April 4th. I'm currently in pain from the wisdom tooth pushing into my back molar. Only six more weeks to go. This is going to drag, really drag on. I can't really bring the operation closer because I've already got my holidays worked around it.

Have an appointment with my dentist tomorrow, to see if he can do anything about it.

Talked to Paris last night. It was great catching up, according to my logs I haven't talked to him since early October last year.

I've gotta do some exercise. Might go for a jog later or something.

Well mine are a special case the dentist said. Because they are growing horizontally into my back molars, and are also partially covered over with my gums, they need to be operated on. Which means I get hit with the general anaesthetic for a few hours.

My pamphlet I got from the surgeon says I have to fast from midnight before the surgery, rock up at 6am at the hospital for it. Doesn't mention how long it'll take, but its day surgery so I'll be out before night.

Apparently its common to have swelling. I have to suck food through a straw for a few days after the surgery, as well as a bunch of other things to make life unpleasant. Kinda why I got two weeks off work so I can recover properly from it.

As for cost, where I'm getting it done:
Surgeon: Flat fee of $850.
Anaesthetist: Gap fee is around $300.
Hospital: Base cost is around $360, less if you have private health insurance.

On top of that we have to cover our travel and accommodation expenses, as its a 250km drive to Rockhampton where I'm getting it done. I believe we're staying in Rocky two nights (but not at the hospital).

If you go see a decent dentist, they'll be able to tell you if you'll need to have your wisdom teeth out and whether they can do it at their surgery (its a hell of a lot cheaper that way).

Umm, ouch. Remind me to just hold on to these babies until they're pushing a hole in my skull and lacerating my tongue so badly in the course of a normal day that I use elastoplast and butterfly clips.

The upside is, that after the months of healing required, u'll feel normal again :P

I'm starting to think that maybe physical pain is far better than dealing with banks.

Have Fun!

Had the same problem as you. It's been 10 years since I got mine removed.

My operation was scheduled for I think.... 12:30pm, and I remember waking up about 2:30pm. I was in and out of conciseness for two or so hours, and I walked out of the hospital at 6:30pm. The pain really sets in when the local anaesthetic wears off, and I remember crying in the hospital bed cause it hurt so much. They'll make you eat something so they know that you're not going to throw up or anything. And yeah! A fun operation :) (mine were growing into my back teeth as well, but not as bad as horizontal. Just a little bit)

Good luck
