Celebrate the irony

I'm getting one of these next week, can't wait as my povvo watch from Edinburgh is starting to wear out its welcome. I got a really neat velcro strap for it (made in the USA, it proudly proclaims), but in this heat I sweat profusely into it, and after only a day or two I need to remove it to soak and wash it. Which is a pain, it took me about 2 hours to originally put the watchband on, so removing and putting it back on is a pain.

The watch was one I found while working behind the bar at Spiegeltent. One of the punters had dropped it and it was left behind the bar, where I found it when we were pulling the tents down. A really nice swatch watch, it just needed some loving (read: new battery and watchstrap, £8 all up) and off it went.

I'm also nearly done paying my Mum off!! She very nicely paid for a whole pile of stuff while we were in China last year (trains, hotels, tours and a new pair of glasses for me). I've been balancing paying off this with keeping the credit card hounds at bay. Plus living an extravagant lifestyle ... sort of. I have since managed to destroy the glasses Mum bought for me, and I got an even better paid made up here.

We finally managed to purchase our flights to the US in June. The flights over are ok, the flights back are probably some of the worst scheduled ones I've seen. But, they were the right price so thats what we'll go with. We'll just have to pack our wedding gear into our carry on. Next, Virgin Blue flights to Sydney, and a rental car ...

Jess and I are getting a little tired of living with other people, I think Jess has written about it previously. I really do like my alone time, and sometimes it is hard to get it living here. After we get back in July from the US, I think we'll be looking seriously to move into our own place.

I have three songs burned into my skull at present:
1. Muse - Knights of Cydonia
2. White Stripes - Icky thump
3. Wombats - Lets dance to Joy Division.

you ever have that thing where you glance at a page and you see a phrase, somehow, but you can't see exactly where so you go reading through it? i looked at page 1 of my lj friends list and my brain got "you and i must fight to survive". i read through and couldn't see anything. but you have muse listed there. i wonder if my brain jumped two steps ahead.

All the time. My brain picks up on all sorts of phrases and things out of web pages. I seem to skim through web pages and news stories a lot.

I've been a long-time fan of Muse, evidenced by my excited screaming in the middle of a live jazz concert while also listening to the countdown on my phoneradio.

That watch is very sweet. I love some of the abstract watch designs slowly coming about. If I was going to start wearing a watch again, it'd be one of those.
